How to build a song

Why the genre comes through
Suno weights the start of the Style line the most, so the builder puts the genre first. It also drops a conflicting era (e.g. “50s reggae” — reggae is a late-60s genre) and suggests genre-typical instruments that steer the sound further. A tip: 2–4 instruments per section sound cleaner than ten, and a precise descriptor (“overdriven guitar”) beats a plain “guitar”.

How do I place instruments per section?
Paste lyrics with [Verse]/[Chorus] tags, hit “Parse sections”, then on each section press “＋ instrument” and pick from the dictionary (181 instruments). The tag lands right in that section and the role (intro/solo/…) auto-matches the section type.
Why doesn’t Suno always catch the genre?
The genre must be at the start of the Style line — the builder does that for you. Don’t mix it with a conflicting era (“50s reggae”) — such clashes throw the model off, so the stray era is dropped. Genre-typical instruments reinforce the sound further.
Do the chords really work in Suno?
Simple triads in square brackets plus the key in the Style box stay stable. Complex jazz chords, inversions and mid-song key changes are less reliable.
