Suno Cuts the Track Short — How to Make a Song Longer
Getting 1–2 minutes instead of a full song, or a mid-phrase cut-off? It is almost always about the number of sections and not using Extend. Here is how to build length without losing the style.
Why the track comes out short
Suno builds music from the Lyrics box. With just one verse and chorus, the model has nothing more to "play", so the track ends. Length = amount of text + section tagging. So the first step to a long track is a full structure.
Method 1: full structure up front
Write all sections in Lyrics — the track is longer on the first generation.
Open a finished track → Extend — the model continues from the end.
Repeat Extend several times — that builds length up to a full song.
Add the next text sections to each continuation ([Verse 2], [Bridge], [Outro]).
Always end with an explicit [Outro] — otherwise the track may cut off mid-phrase.
Keeping the style across continuations
On Extend the model can drift a little. To hold one cohesive track: repeat the same style prompt, lock the vocal with a Persona, and do not change genre between parts. Then the pieces stitch into one seamless song.
Length sorted — now structure and sound matter. Section tagging is in the guide below, ready style prompts are in the catalog.
Usually because the Lyrics box has few sections. The model lays music to the text: one short block = a short track. Add more sections ([Verse 2], [Bridge], a second [Chorus]) and the track gets longer.
How does the Extend feature work?
Extend takes a finished clip and continues from that point, keeping the style and vocal. You can extend several times in a row, building up to a full-length song.
Can I get a long track in one go?
Yes: write the full structure in Lyrics (intro → 2-3 verses → choruses → bridge → outro) with section tags. The fuller the text and tagging, the longer and more coherent the first generation.
Why does the style drift after Extend?
On continuation the model can drift slightly. To hold the sound, repeat the same style prompt and use a Persona for the vocal. A sharp genre change between parts breaks coherence.
The track cuts off mid-phrase — what do I do?
That is an unfinished ending. Add an explicit [Outro] in Lyrics and/or extend the clip so the model resolves the phrase and wraps the track.
