Ottawan: style for Suno V6

Ottawan were one of the defining acts of the late-1970s and early-1980s Euro-disco boom, a French studio project whose relentlessly cheerful hits filled dance floors from Paris to Vladivostok. Masterminded by producers Daniel Vangarde and Jean Kluger, the group paired two charismatic Caribbean-born singers with bright, bouncy, deliberately simple songs built for maximum singalong. The formula was irresistible: a chugging four-on-the-floor beat, sparkling disco strings, funky clipped guitar and chant-like choruses spelled out letter by letter or shouted in call-and-response. Two songs in particular became inescapable — 'D.I.S.C.O.', a disco anthem that literally spells its own title, and 'Hands Up (Give Me Your Heart)', an exuberant party chant that still detonates dance floors decades later. There was never anything subtle about it; the appeal was pure, uncomplicated joy, sung in accented, sunny English designed to travel across every language barrier. Behind the kitsch sat slick, professional production typical of the European disco machine. In the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe especially, Ottawan became shorthand for the whole glittering disco era, their chants memorised by people who knew no other English at all.
