Collective Soul: style for Suno V6

Collective Soul were the sound of nineties rock radio at its most effortlessly melodic. Emerging from Stockbridge, Georgia, and led by songwriter Ed Roland, the band cut against the grain of grunge-era gloom with warm, hook-driven anthems that owed as much to classic rock as to alternative. Shine, their breakout, rode a fuzzy riff and a gospel-sized hook to ubiquity in 1994; The World I Know brought orchestral tenderness; December, Gel and Heavy kept the hits coming through the decade. Roland's writing is unabashedly tuneful — big singalong choruses, chiming guitars, a sunlit optimism rare among their peers — delivered in his warm, slightly raspy tenor. Where much of nineties alt-rock wallowed, Collective Soul uplifted, marrying crunchy guitars to melodies you could hum on first listen. Built around the Roland brothers — Ed and guitarist Dean — the band broke through when Shine, first cut as a rough demo, exploded on radio, and they spent the decade as a fixture of film soundtracks and stadium bills before going independent.
