Alexander Novikov: style for Suno V6

Alexander Novikov turned the Russian urban ballad into something closer to theatre. A guitarist and songwriter from Sverdlovsk, he recorded the album Vezi Menya, Izvozchik in 1984 — a cycle of sharp, cinematic songs about coachmen, hustlers and heartbreak that circulated on magnitizdat tapes across the Soviet Union before the authorities jailed him for it in 1985. Rehabilitated years later, he came back not as a martyr but as a craftsman, building his own theatre in Yekaterinburg and writing chanson with a novelist's eye for detail. His baritone is dry, unhurried and faintly amused, delivering verses full of period slang, wounded pride and gallows humour over acoustic guitar, button accordion and restrained studio bands. Where much Russian chanson leans on sentimentality, Novikov leans on story: every song is a character sketch with a punchline or a bruise. A first-rate guitarist, he plays the seven-string courtyard tradition with concert-hall precision, and his later albums trade criminal romance for lyricism and a civic edge. Reach for this sound when you want literate Russian chanson — plain-spoken, theatrical, rooted in the courtyard and the kitchen table, sung by a narrator who has clearly lived every line.
